ABOUT ME

“It is always now.”

This is a quote from one of my favorite authors, Sam Harris, that perfectly sums up the key to happiness: living in the present moment. While this is quite difficult to focus on during our daily grind, we feel happiest when we are completely engrossed in the present moment. Nothing fully pulls us into the present like our passions. A dancer in between steps, a musician holding a note, or an athlete sweating through a competition. My passion involves preserving those moments, for myself and for others. I am a photographer, attempting to capture the light of the present so that it may shine on in the future. I am a journalist, attempting to adequately tell the story of the present so that it will never be forgotten.

While I have always known my passions, I am new to them as careers. I am currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in journalism at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. I recently joined Milk Thistle Productions as a lifestyle photographer. Milk Thistle Productions is an independent business run by my fiancée Tara and I. We are both inspired by the newest addition to our family, our son Marcel who was born in March 2017. Together, we hope to grow our photography business as we continue mastering our craft. I hope to write for a major publication and one day become a teacher.

My religion is rhythm and laughter. My core values are communication, reason and truth. The majority of my work experience comes as a retail manager, a banquet hall cook, and a drummer. I am a music aficionado who grew up on metal and hardcore, but I enjoy anything from folk, to hip-hop, to techno. I am a Detroit sports enthusiast, hoops and hockey being my specialties. My bookshelves are filled with philosophy, science, history, classic novels, and the sporadic parenting book. I love comedy in all forms from stand-up routines to the subtle, awkward situations of everyday life. I am also fascinated by the macabre, I can enjoy even a bad horror movie. As Voltaire said, “You must have the devil in you to succeed in any of the arts."
